These photos of a male Northern Flicker were taken 0n November 7, 2014 on the Point Grey campus of the University of British Columbia, next to the Longhouse. And yes, the tree pictured above is a giant sequoia. I  chose the picture below because I like the effect of the silhouette.

Both photos were taken with a Nikon D5200 and AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED and in both cases, the bird was not baited, called in or set up.
