Ring-necked Duck / Fuligule à collier / Aythya collaris: One of several bird photos shot during a short family trip to Chilliwack, BC, Canada, on the small pond next to the Chilliwack Library. You may notice that the ISO setting is very high in spite of the sunny conditions: This occurred because I was also taking pictures at an indoor swim meet and forgot to change the ISO setting back to “automatic.” All in all, however, these photos turned out better than I have thought, a testament to the quality of Nikon’s “low light” settings (even when the light is bright out).
Taken with a handheld Nikon D5200 and AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED. Not baited, called in or set up (although some people used bread crumbs to feed these ducks from time to time).
- Top – female: ISO 3200, 250mm, f/11, 1/2500
- Bottom – two males: ISO 3200, 250mm, f/20, 1/1000
