Second photo of an Anna’s Hummingbird at UBC (a couple of days late)

Anna’s Hummingbird / Colibri d’Anna / Calypte anna: For some reason, I completely forgot to post this second photo, as I promised a few days ago when speaking about the same bird. Here it is, then! Taken on March 2, 2015 with a handheld Nikon D5200 and AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED (ISO 400, 300mm, f/5.6, 1/1250). Not baited, called in or set up.

    1. Thank you! Yes, this lens is pretty amazing, but I wish I had more reach. I rented an “old” AF-S 300mm f/4 with a 1.4x teleconverter the other day and found this was already a great improvement. Still, this combination is not cheap, even compared to the new AF-S 300mm f/4 lens (which is incredibly compact and has an amazing VR feature).

      1. I keep looking at a Sigma 500 or 600 for the Nikon. Not cheap and I haven’t used Sigma before. Like you, I just wish I had a little more reach.

    2. I have heard very good things about the Tamron 150-600, even though it is quite slow at the 600 range (and so can only be used in full sunlight). It is remarkably cheap for the quality, apparently.
