Common Loon (first summer) | Plongeon huard | Gavia immer: This bird caught a starry flounder (Platichthys stellatus) and tossed it around for several minutes before eating it. These photos had to be seriously cropped to show detail, but I am still fairly satisfied with their sharpness. I especially like the last photo, where you can clearly see the impressive size of the loon’s bill.
Taken on May 9, 2015, in Jericho Park in Vancouver, BC, Canada, with a handheld Nikon D5200 and AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED (all three photos: ISO 400 | 300mm | f/6.3 | 1/1600). Not baited, called in or set up.
