Male Rufous Hummingbird at Reifel

DSC_0487

Rufous Hummingbird (male) | Colibri roux | Selasphorus rufus: I wish both of these photos were better (although I like the top photo quite a bit, I had to crop it significantly) and almost did get a few better shots, but the male I was about to photograph got “photobombed” by another male. Oh well, some day I will get my perfect shot!

Taken at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta (British Columbia), Canada on March 19, 2016, with a handheld Nikon D5200 and AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR. Not baited, called in or set up.

  • Top: ISO 640 | 500mm | f/5.6 | 1/1000, cropped
  • Bottom: ISO 720 | 230mm | f/5.6 | 1/1000, cropped

      1. Funny you should say that… We’ve been noticing lots of territorial issues among birds on recent walks – so many missed action shots! 😉
