Barrow’s Goldeneyes in North Vancouver

Barrow’s Goldeneye (male, with female in background) | Garrot d’Islande | Bucephala islandica: I know I’ve often featured this species of late, but I love the colour of the male’s head. But the contrast between the dark and white feathers mean they are quite a challenge to photograph, especially when the sun is a touch too bright!

Taken from a beach in North Vancouver (close to the Spirit Trail in Harbourside) on March 28, 2016, with a handheld Nikon D5200 and AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR (ISO 400 | 500mm | f/5.6 | 1/1250), cropped for composition. Not baited, called in or set up.
