Pine Siskin… in a parking lot at SFU?!?

DSC_2114 (1)

You can see the strangest things in parking lots sometimes, including a flock of Pine Siskins feeding on the roof of a car! I’m not too sure what they were looking for there — maybe the melting frost or perhaps some salt that came from driving on de-iced roads? Thankfully, a tree was nearby and I was able to get a few more “natural” shots, including this one, which was the best I think.

Taken November 27, 2015 on the north end of Simon Fraser University’s Parking Lot B in Burnaby (BC), with a handheld Nikon D5200 and AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED (ISO 800 | 300mm | f/5.6 | 1/1000, cropped for composition). Not baited, called in or set up.

Red-breasted Sapsucker (male) at SFU

Red-breasted Sapsucker (male) | Pic à poitrine rouge | Sphyrapicus ruber: This beautiful male was foraging for food on a stand of trees inside the grounds of Simon Fraser Univesrity’s Academic Quadrangle building in Burnaby (British Columbia), Canada. As you can see in the photo above, this tree seemed to be a favourite with the woodpeckers.
